Microsoft is a company that needs no introduction at this point.
The American multinational corporation was started back in 1975 by a young Bill Gates who went on to become the world’s richest person.
Whilst these started as a trailblazer in personal computer operating systems, they are also now a leading name in social media with LinkedIn and in video gaming with the hugely popular Xbox console.
Other subsidiaries of the global giants include Skype and GitHub.
There’s no doubt, however, that the company’s driving force remains PC operating systems and the Microsoft Office software suite market.
The company has proved itself to be flexible, happily also dipping its toes in the hardware industry with the release of various Microsoft mobile phones, tablets and tablet computers.
If you look back at any time through Microsoft’s history, it is now clear with hindsight that it would have been a great thing to have been a part of at the time.
There’s no doubt that people will be saying the same about today’s Microsoft in five years.
The company remains as innovative as ever and now is operating at a mind-blowing scale. Its assets in 2021 stood at a whopping $334 billion!
Being a part of this team is a fantastic opportunity and as no surprise that a company with Microsoft’s background has made their careers website as slick and smooth as possible.
Here we are going to walk you through the necessary steps to send off an application with one of the company’s vacancies.
This is a remarkably simple process and with our help you have it done in no time at all.
Let’s get into it!
Whilst many companies choose to use the Indeed UK website to advertise job listings, Microsoft is of such a reputation and size that they have chosen to rely solely on their website.
Once you’ve had a glance at the website, you can see why!
Whilst you may not be used to diving straight into a company’s career page, Microsoft has made things as simple and easy to navigate as possible.
Like Indeed UK, you can even create an account from which to get updates on new openings and the progress of current vacancies.
To get started you’ll want to go to Microsoft’s careers page.
Once you’re on Microsoft’s career page you should see a wide range of options. At the time of writing, there is a choice of 132 vacancies for you to have a look at and send off an application to.
Whilst it is nice to have this much choice, is also understandable if this can seem like an overwhelming total.
Luckily, Microsoft no to make this as manageable as possible for you.
What they’ve provided with is a range of filters from which you can select options that apply to you so you can get the number down of vacancies to something that seems more manageable.
If you have something very specific in mind then the search bar at the top will let you type in a preferred role or position or entry-level.
Whilst you may be able to jump to the most suitable options with this tool you are also at risk of missing out on something that doesn’t contain your keyword which may still be suitable.
If you want to take a broader approach to filtering then you can find on the left of the page a few less picky options.
First off is the location functions which lets you choose from the areas in which Microsoft are currently hiring. You are also welcome to leave the street if you’re happy to relocate our flexible with where you work from.
The professions filter lets you choose something specific to your skillset.
This means you don’t need to be trawling through options that you have no interest or expertise in.
Below this, you will find the discipline filter which lets you pick up something more specific than the professions filter.
Last of all, you will find employment type and role type.
These more general tools both give you two options to choose between so you can find the vacancies that best fit your intended work life.
Once you see something suitable click on its title.
This will take you to a new page from which you can click the blue “apply now” button.
From here you can sign in with one of four different account types.
You almost definitely have one of these. Simply click on the one for which you already have an account and use it regularly.
You then create a profile with some very basic information and proceed to the next page.
For the final step, you upload your CV and fill in the required information.
Depending on the role that you have selected you may be asked some extra questions specific to that vacancy.
Make sure you fill these in with care as they are likely to be the deciding factor between you and other candidates.
Once you submitted the form, all you have to do is wait.
How do I know if I have been selected?
When Microsoft have a decision on whether you will be going to the next date of the application process, they will send you an email.
This should contain the instructions for what you need to do to either arrange an interview or provide them with more information.
Make sure you provide them with an email address that you check regularly or at least get notifications for. The quicker you respond to them the more enthusiastic and disciplined you will appear.
There’s no need to worry if you don’t get the response you want straight away from the first application you sent off.
Once you’ve created a profile of Microsoft most of the information that you’ve given them will remain there so you can fill out your next applications even quicker.
So keep at it, there’s nothing to stop you from sending off as many applications as you want.
Good luck!
